My Insanity Asylum Review
I completed Insanity, but I didn’t like it my first time around. Once I did it a year later, I was hooked. Just a mere year and half later, Shaun T. takes it to another level. Here’s my Insanity Asylum review.
While it is not required to be an Insanity grad, it makes sense purely from an endurance stand point and to get used to Shaun T’s training style. He pushes you beyond your limits!
Insanity Asylum Review – the Asylum Workouts
Before you begin you should know (although I think it’s pretty obvious) that you should be in really good condition!
These workouts are a blast and it consists of sports conditioning drills and exercises! These are the same types of drills that pro athletes to to keep themselves in peak performance mode! So, going through agility ladder moves, jump roping, plyometrics and various agility exercises not only tests your brain for control, but your endurance as well. It is super intense, in a fun way!
You won’t be able to keep up right out of the gate, but you will certainly improve in a very short time as the program is only 30 days long, which can seem like an eternity if you’re not in condition for it!
This is the first volume in a series of Asylum programs. Insanity: The Asylum Volume 1: Sports Performance is the official title. Look for my review of Insanity: The Asylum Volume 2: Elite Training Series in a future post.
This PDF calendar of Insanity Asylum Volume 1 gives you an idea of the rotation of the workouts.
Insanity Asylum Review – The Program
There are 6 DVDs in Asylum:
- Speed & Agility (45 mins)
- Vertical Plyo (40 mins)
- Relief (25 mins)
- Strength (50 mins)
- Back to Core (45 mins)
- Game Day (60 mins)
- Overtime (15 min)
- Athletic Performance Assessment (25 mins)
Most of the workouts are done in 45 minutes or less, but they are crazy intense. In my opinion, the workouts fly by with all of the variety of moves.
The equipment needed is minimal, but it does require more than Insanity. You get an agility ladder, speed rope and a strength band (for wrapping around your legs and wrist for resistance). Having weights and a pull up bar are nice, but not required. You can get buy with just a resistance band. So, this program works well on the road.
This intense program also includes a workout calendar, Asylum guide book, and a Get Shredded nutrition plan.
Check out this video clip about the different moves included in the workout and how the equipment is used.
Are you ready to take it to the next level with Asylum?
