Gratitude activities should take place throughout the year. It seems that the October, November and December are truly amazing times for gratitude activities as we gather with our families to celebrate many holidays.
Here are gratitude activities that you may want to try at your family gathering. Then see where you can applies these throughout the year.
Try the following activities. Do these at your celebrations or anytime. Have fun! Notice how you feel! Notice how others feel and respond!
Gratitude Activities
1. Special Person
At your family gathering:
1. Write each person’s name on a slip of paper & put into a jar
2. Each person picks a name
3. Give each person a piece of paper where they will write what they at grateful and thankful for about the person they chose. Have them write what makes them special and why.
4. Later, have everyone gather in a room to share. Each person takes a turn and reads what they wrote directing at the person they chose.
This is a really incredible event for one of the gratitude activities you choose to do. No doubt you will see smiles and even get some powerful emotions and tears out of the event.
2. One Word At A Time Story (or two words)
Have everyone at your gathering sit in a circle. They will be sharing a story using one word at a time (or you can make the rules to have 2 words at a time). Each person will say a word to the story and you go around the room adding to the story. People can end a sentence by saying period, but it doesn’t have to be a part of the rules.
Have the family focus on a story about being grateful (or Thanksgiving) Each player provides one word of a sentence. The end of a sentence can be indicated by a player saying `period` although that is not necessary.
Get ready for some laughs and “creativity!”
