Here’s a few tips to surviving a weekend of binge eating. It’s very easy to stay disciplined during the week with your workouts and eating plan. The reason is that people have structure to their week with work, meals and evening activities. Monday through Thursday are typically “stay on track” days. Usually, people let their guard down on Fridays and the weekend because of a typical mindset of “I worked so hard this week, so I deserve a break!”
The thing that happens to many people I coach is that the weekend can unravel all their hard work from the exercise during the week and even derail their fitness program. This typically occurs because a person feels guilty or unsuccessful with their program, so they quit. It often ends up becoming a cycle of start and stop workout programs, resulting in little or no results.
Tips to Survive a Weekend of Binge Eating:
- Adopt a different mindset by replacing relaxation, sitting around and mindless eating with activity. Choose activities you can do that will occupy your time, get you away from the fridge and still get exercise. This may include long walks, hike, bike ride with the family, visit the dog park, take a city walking tour to places you have never explored, roller blading, etc.
- Be adventurous and do something very different like join an intramural sports team or participate in an event like mud runs or charity walks/runs or sign up for a spin class or mixed martial arts lesson.
- Do your favorite Beachbody workout in the morning and then do a yoga/stretch/flex/recovery workout in the afternoon to keep things fresh and limber! Do the workout outdoors if it’s nice outside.. you, know… that fresh air thing!
- Replace unhealthy snacks with an additional Shakeology always seems to do the trick! Add extra ice to make ice cream! Use our ShakeMenu Recipe Site for dessert and snack ideas!
- Do the activities at different times through out the day and vary the activities around using different muscle groups. One idea might be a morning walk, afternoon bike ride and evening swim.

Practice these each weekend and you’ll soon find that your results will come faster, your momentum will continue and you might even start to look forward to Mondays! Just remember, the food binge isn’t worth it in the long run!
