In order for the human body to survive it must be provided with certain things. For instance, an individual cannot live more than three minutes without air and no more than three days without water. Now, while there have been reports of people surviving up to 10 days without water, this is definitely the exception rather than the rule. Being 65% of the body, water is critical to staying alive. However, in addition to the obvious, there are actually many drinking water benefits, which is what I wanted to address in this article.
Interestingly, 30 or 40 years ago people did not drink water to the same degree as what we see today. Because of bottled products, water is now more accessible and convenient. In fact, it is a common sight to see people walking, workout out, riding a bike, and performing other physical activities with a bottle of water nearby. This is actually good in that water hydration ultimately supports good physical and mental health.
The amount of water you should drink on a daily basis has been a debated topic although most experts today recommend at minimum half of your body weight in ounces. In other words, if you weigh 140 pounds then the goal should be to drink at least 70 ounces of water. While it might seem like a lot, keep in mind that fluids are lost through urination, perspiration, evaporation, and even breathing. Of course, if involved in a strenuous physical activity or if you live in a part of the country where temperatures are hot, the amount would need to be increased.
With the information below, you can see five of the top drinking water benefits although there are more. I also want to mention that today, there are some excellent infused water products sold that still offer water hydration but in great flavors and in some cases, nutrients have been added. If preferred, you can also use a number of home remedies that promote good health just as drinking distilled water with just a pinch of Himalayan sea salt.

Drinking Water Benefits: Maintaining Proper Balance
The first of the five drinking water benefits that I want to mention is the ability to maintain proper balance of fluids. In order for the body to properly function, it must be hydrated. For instance, production of saliva, digestion, food absorption, body temperature, and transportation of critical nutrients all depend on bodily fluids. Depending on the function being performed, the brain sends signals to the kidneys whether to release fluid of hold some in reserve. Then, if low on fluid, the thirst mechanism would be prompted.
Weight Loss
Another one of the key drinking water benefits is weight loss. Keep in mind that it would still be imperative to follow a healthy meal plan and exercise but in addition, drinking water can help you drop unwanted pounds by creating a sensation of being full. In addition, by substituting water for soda, fruit juice, or other sugary beverages you would be taking in fewer calories, which again would promote weight loss.
Muscle Energy
For muscles to maintain stored energy they need the right balance of fluids and electrolytes. Without this, muscle will actually start to fatigue. Obviously, unless you have muscle energy it would be extremely difficult to exercise so this is very important. In fact, if you are involved with an intense workout program or high-performance sport, drinking water is vital for muscles to function optimally. Although there are different standards, many top athletes drink 17 ounces of water two hours prior to physical activity, as well as at regular times during the activity to keep muscles properly hydrated.

Youthful Looking Skin
Yet another one of the most important drinking water benefits is that it allows skin to look and feel youthful. Remember, skin is the largest organ of the body but also the first line of defense. This means skin serves to protect internal organs against harsh temperature, pollutants, the sun’s rays, and more. As a result, skin easily becomes dehydrated, which then leads to the development of lines and wrinkles. With proper hydration, skin remains soft and supple, thereby having a more youthful appearance.
Strong and Healthy Kidneys
The last of the drinking water benefits I wanted to mention has to do with the health of the kidneys. The purpose of kidneys is to cleanse and eliminate harmful toxins from the body but in order to do this the body has to be provided with adequate water. As an example, a key toxin found in the body is called blood urea nitrogen, which again is flushed through the kidneys. However, this toxin is water soluble so for it to pass properly you must keep the body hydrated.
Drinking Water Benefits: Conclusion
Drinking water is a necessary process required by the body. It is needed for proper cellular function. Hydrate the body and it will thrive to transport, communicate, deliver, detoxify, illuminate, and electrify.
