Depression is a widespread problem and one that can produce devastating and even life-threatening results. There are actually several different types of depression and while there are shared characteristics, there are also many differences. However, no matter the type the most important thing you can do is learn how to fight depression. For this, it would be imperative to get an appropriate diagnosis so the proper treatment could be determined.
Statistics on Depression
In addition to ways you can fight depression, I wanted to take the opportunity to provide some current statistics. This is important in that it proves just how huge the problem is but also how it impacts lives. According to recent reports, these are a few of the statistics for mental health issues in the United States alone:
- Approximately 22.1% of people 18 years and older have a mental disorder that can be diagnosed
- Many people actually suffer from several types of mental health simultaneously
- Four of the top 10 types of disability include major depression, schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, and obsessive compulsive disorder or OCD
- $16 billion in lost work time occurs annually due to mood disorders
- More than 90% of suicide victims had a diagnosable mental health disorder
How To Fight Depression With Proper Fitness
In addition to working with a mental health professional and diet, proper fitness is an excellent way to fight depression and its debilitating effects. The challenge is that many people who live with depression do not feel like exercising but it works. While it would require some degree of discipline and determination, if you struggle with depression I encourage you to choose a form of activity enjoyed most and then take the first step to exercising on a daily basis. Within a short period of time you will begin to notice positive change.
I want to point out that you can choose an activity or if it would make things easier, select one of the fitness programs from Beachbody. The reason I recommend these specific programs is that they have all been developed by top fitness experts, they are challenging but fun, the they promote both good physical and mental health. Another bonus is the ability to do these in the privacy in your own home. Below are just a few of the programs that I feel would work best in relation to depression.
Tai Cheng – This is a highly recommended fitness program that focuses on mobility, agility, and vitality for optimal physical and mental health. Using a natural method for restoring the body’s range of motion from youth, you would experience less pain but also find the effects of depression begin to lessen.
Rockin’ Body – If you are in good physical shape but still interested in knowing how to fight depression the Rockin’ Body workout would be an ideal choice. With this, you would work out to different music genres and as most people know, music moves the soul and touches the heart.
How To Fight Depression Through Detoxification
In learning how to fight depression, exercise is critical However, it would also be essential to follow the right eating plan and make good lifestyle choices. I also want to mention detoxification, which is something many people overlook. Throughout life, harmful toxins accumulate in the body and if not cleansed, a variety of physical and mental health issues would arise. Initially, an individual might feel sluggish, experience headaches, and go through bouts of constipation and diarrhea but as time passes, the toxic buildup begins to wreak havoc on the body and mind.
Obviously, living with physical problems on a daily basis begins to wear on the mind, which can easily lead to depression. Unfortunately, many doctors will run tests looking for a diagnosable disease and find nothing because they are not thinking about detoxification. Keep in mind that depending on the level of toxic buildup and the severity of symptoms, you might need to go through a natural cleanse more than once but typically after one or two, there are noticeable improvements. Not only would you have more energy but also improved mental clarity.
There is a number of detoxification and cleansing products on the market and in fact, you could visit an actual clinic where a service is discretely
performed. However, I suggest you consider a program also available through Beachbody called the Ultimate Reset. The reason I prefer this program over others is that it is all-natural. In other words, the body can be rid of toxins and completely rebalanced but without using laxatives or starvation diets.
As toxins are flushed from the body with the Ultimate Reset, your overall health would improve. During the 21 days it takes to complete the program, energy would increase, focus improve, digestion would be better, and even mood would be enhanced. Remember, as you achieve optimal physical health the issue of depression would begin to subside. There are a number of solutions for how to fight depression but exercise is an excellent place to start.
