How to Bring It with P90X
After completing several rounds of Power 90, I wanted to know how to bring it even more! I was getting bored doing the same routine over and over and pretty much hit a plateau on my results (I now know why…needed variety). I knew what and how I could maintain my health and fitness without getting fat again. I wanted to take it to the next level!
Beachbody began putting out teasers on a new program called P90X, which was designed around the concept of muscle confusion. I needed a change, I was scared, but I wanted to know what my body could do and how to bring it with P90X!
I was one of the first customers to do P90X. There were no infomercials about it. I bought this extreme home fitness program on VHS tape. The program arrived and the fitness guide was signed by Tony Horton, with the words, “Bring It!”
The things I learned through several rounds of P90X were amazing. More amazing than the transformation I had. So, this article isn’t necessarily about the workouts in P90X. It’s beyond that. It’s how to bring it for life!
How to Bring It with P90X: Individualizing
Over the years, P90X and other home fitness programs have taught me that everyone has a fitness personality. You have to choose what is right for you, so that you will stick with it and also get the results you are wanting. While I constantly love to try most every workout program that Beachbody puts out, there have been ones that have become favorites because they are fun, engage me, and get me results! Those are: P90X, P90X2, P90X+, Les Mills Pump, Insanity and Insanity: The Asylum. I’ll take any of those!
How to Bring It with P90X: Periodizing your Training
We need to keep mixing it up every month or so! I know P90X goes through different phases and you are constantly challenging your muscles in different ways, which creates change. You can also get variety beyond P90X. We can avoid hitting plateaus this way. That’s why I halted progress during Power 90. I kept doing it over and over. Tony Horton always says, “Variety is the spice of life!” So you avoid boredom by incorporating variety. In our house we sometimes have too much variety and can’t decide. A nice dilemma we call “fitness ADD.”
How to Bring It with P90X: Progression
You need to constantly keep pushing yourself to improve. No matter what level you start from, strive improve day by day. A little bit better than the day before. Just be consistent with exercising! Some days will be hard. Especially, when you go into a new phase of a workout program like P90X or Insanity. The moves are different, challenging and you just plain suck at the moves or choreography. But each day, each week, you get better, faster, stronger. This is perfectly evidenced by the fit test you take every 2 weeks in Insanity and the numbers you record on your worksheets in P90X. You see improvement each time! You see the numbers and strive to do better this time.. one more reps, better time, better endurance! Another measurement is how you feel, how you sleep, how much energy you have throughout the day, how your clothes fit, how your attitude improves. Get it?
How to Bring It with P90X: Cleansing, Nourishing, Supplementing and Rest
We must cleanse our bodies of toxins like caffeine and alcohol. I know… you are shouting NO!!! That was me. For years there was no way I was going to give up either. And I didn’t. Until I decided I wanted to get results. SO, I backed away from beer and challenged myself to 30 days of clean eating. Guess what! I got ripped. You will too!
A great way to kick start is by doing the Beachbody Ultimate Reset 21 Day Cleanse. That with detoxify your system, cleanse and nourish it! The Reset was my gateway to breaking away from caffeine!
Eat the right foods. You’ll feel good, look good, have more energy, fuel your workouts, sleep better, keep your body in fat burning mode, etc. Eat lean proteins (preferably free range, organic or wild caught), natural carbohydrates, and healthy fats. You also need to adequately hydrate. Water, water, water!
Supplements work well to add to a healthy eating plan! They add in many beneficial nutrients you might not otherwise get from food. I take several, with Shakeology being the mainstay supplement because it includes so many super foods, vitamins, phytonutrients, pre and probiotics, and more!
Rest your body! You need to adequately get enough “good” sleep each night as well as rest and recover each week from strenuous, intense workouts!
How to Bring It with P90X: Support
Getting the support of your friends and family is huge! Often, people find when they share their goals and that they are on a mission to get fit/ripped/lose weight in 90 days, those who love you will help encourage and support you on your journey. Another great way for accountability and support is to connect with your Team Beachbody coach, the Team Beachbody message boards, and also joining a Beachbody Challenge Group.
So, if you truly want to know how to bring it, you need to look at all of these components. Sometimes, it’s a process. But if you are one of those people who goes “all in” and follows the program as designed, you are going to get results. Then continue to challenge yourself and make it a lifestyle commitment. You’re worth it, right?
